The Passion of Christ

I felt this was the place to write this because it was a conversation I had with my daughter who is 17. She was telling me about the movie "The Passion of Christ" when she had gone to see it. She told me that their religion class were taken by their teacher to see this movie. To me that is really great and courageous in this day and age. Especially how the education area frowns on Christianity in the schools.

The movie theatre was jamed packed. All through the movie she said there was a noticable thing that she never experienced before in the theatre. It was totally still and quiet except for the sniffling. She said this to me and it hit me profoundly. She said to me that when they were young I had shared a story with her and my other kids the horrifying details of what Jesus experienced through the crucifixion. I remember well because I painted the gruesome picture as I knew it then. She said she has a new love and respect for what Jesus did for her now because hearing it and seeing it hit her with reality. She said when the movie was over again there was a noticable silence as people walked out of the theatre. People were weeping and as they went on the bus and rode home, sniffling was heard because it was totally quiet on the bus. For this day and age that is something to remember especially if you were the bus driver.

My daughter and I cried together as we spoke of Jesus and His sacrifice. Jesus had only one thing on his mind when He chose to do this. Yes it was His choice and not forced on Him. It says in Scriptures that Jesus endured the cross and despised the shame because of the joy that was set before him and sat down at the right hand of God. Heb. 12:2 Some might argue this point but in my life it would be to no avail. We were the Joy that was set before him. We were the prize and His desire of love. I love him for this. As I type this I weep as I usually do when I recall what He did for us. Brethern, I do not know why He loves us so but this I do know I have received His love and His blood attoning sacrifice in my life and there is no where else to go.

How this world can knock Jesus I do not know. His message was never for himself. His love was not selfish. His only rule was for us to love one another and as far as I am concerned those who reject His message of love only love darkness more. They think that hiding their deeds in the darkness keeps them safe but Jesus is the light that shines in the darkness and reveals their deeds. That is why they hate Him. I get hate writing several times in our Guestbook at JLYM. Com every week. Sad ones they are.

I wanted to see this movie myself so badly. When I did, I wept just thinking about His sacrificial love for me. It is the anchor of my soul. God bless.

Here is an excerpt from tothesource Newsletter on the Passion of Christ.

But what was so astonishing about Sunday night is that as the Academy was finally acknowledging Rings, The Passion of the Christ was shattering box office records.

If Hollywood lingered in recognizing Rings achievement it openly declared war on Gibson and Passion.

If Rings is too Old Testament for those in Hollywood with an exclusively secular agenda, Passion is way too New Testament.

According to a recent Gallop poll, Gibson is America’s favorite actor. The last film he directed, Braveheart, won him an Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture, along with lots of cash for studios. Yet Hollywood wanted no part of Passion.

Even after he agreed to finance Passion with his own money Gibson was unable to find distribution for the film; a complete rejection by Hollywood of the film’s opinions and commercial value.

Yet American audiences propelled Passion to a jaw-dropping $125.2 million opening week-end, the second highest ever, just under Ring’s. For a foreign language, independent, religious movie, this is astonishing.

A month ago tothesource speculated that Passion would become the highest grossing foreign film of all time. It only took a week-end.

So what happened to Hollywood this past Sunday night? Audiences in America and around the world voted with their tickets that they want more than self-obsessed, nihilistic films that depict the utter meaninglessness of life. That’s what happened to Hollywood this past Sunday night.

The success of Rings and Passion shows we are not all that comfortable with discarding the valued traditions of family and faith, of God and fellow citizens. We seek strong discussion of the importance of these in our lives and will not discard them simply because some believe they are trite, unnecessary, or have served their purpose.

In fact, because of the temptations inherent in modernity, we need these substantive goods more than ever to sustain us.

I believe Hollywood should start rethinking about the filth and abominations they are producing on screen today is not what people are really seeking today. Don't you agree!!!!
